This parental control service allows parents to monitor, filter and restrict their child’s smartphone with ease. The software records and blocks the activities the parent specifies, and can restrict usage of the device to a
schedule the parent configures.

According to 2010 data from a Pew Research survey, one in three teens send more than one hundred text messages per day. Many parents are not fully aware of what their child is texting about. The company said the job losses would primarily affect back office positions in a number of locations, including its headquarters in Newbury, Berkshire.

The cuts are part of a £1bn cost-cutting programme undertaken by the group in the last year as it looks to improve its fortunes.

But Vodafone also said it would be taking on 170 new staff in retail and call-centre roles.

An additional 50 graduates will start work this September after more than 3,000 applied to its university leaver programme.

Nokia today announced the winners of its Forum Nokia 2009 Calling All Innovators contest, a global mobile developer competition designed to generate applications and solutions that enhance the use of Nokia mobile devices in real-world scenarios.

Category winners were recognized at the Calling All Innovators Awards Reception held in Stuttgart on the eve of Nokia World. The total cash and prizes for the 2009 Calling All Innovators contest exceed USD 250,000. The top three submissions in each category will receive a cash award, and prizes that include premium placement featuring the winning application in Nokia’s Ovi Store and the opportunity to demo their winning apps at Nokia World.

Over 1,700 submissions were received from developers and publishers in 85 countries signaling a strong answer to Nokia’s challenge to think big and create mobile applications and services that can help build a better mobile user experience. More than 421,000 visits to the contest website from around the world engaged with Forum Nokia, the world’s largest mobile developer community.

Using the Ovi SDK Beta, Primordial, from St. Paul, Minnesota emerged tops in its category by creating Ground Guidance, an application based on technology originally built for the U.S. Army. The application, which wins USD 30,000 amongst other prizes, enables the Ovi Maps user to get from one point to another, even if there are no roads or road data. With the application, all a user would need are his start and end point – and Ground Guidance would present him with a walkable path while avoiding undesirable terrain such as steep hills or water. The new mobile phone handset will automatically latch onto the best tariff available from either Vodafone or O2 for each phone call you make. They claim that the savings will be around 30 per cent on local and international calls by using these joint tariffs.

This new handset has been named the ‘VO2 Twin Phone’ and will come complete with a dual keypad and a split-screen. The dual components will allow each network to embed their own firmware and unique features.
